How dog training pricing works

There is no single cost that fits every dog. Pricing changes depending on the level of structure, trainer time, travel, handling needs and whether you need standard obedience support or something more specialist.

  • Puppy training: usually a straightforward starting point unless behaviour concerns are already developing. See puppy training in Kent.
  • Private sessions: ideal when you want direct coaching in your own environment. See one-to-one dog training in Kent.
  • Obedience support: useful where the main issues are lead walking, recall, manners, jumping up or household control. See dog obedience training.
  • Behaviour support: may need an assessment-led route if risk, reactivity or anxiety are involved. See dog behaviourist support in Kent.
  • Residential training: a higher upfront investment, but often the strongest option where owners need daily repetition and a structured reset. See residential dog training in Kent.
  • Protection work: specialist pricing because the handling and delivery format are different from standard obedience training. See protection dog training in Kent.

The rates below are current. If you want help choosing the right route, book an assessment and we will guide you properly.

Residential Dog Training Prices

Our residential dog training packages are designed for owners who need intensive structure, faster consistency and a clear handover. Residential training is often chosen for obedience issues, lead pulling, recall problems, confidence building and more established behaviour concerns.

The remaining residential balance is due in full no later than 72 hours before the scheduled admission date, unless SK9 confirms a different deadline in writing. Protection Suitability and Handler Assessment

Protection dog training is not suitable for every dog, household or owner. Before any protection work is considered, SK9 Training World completes a strict suitability review of the dog, the principal handler, the intended environment and the owner objectives.

The assessment is mandatory. It is not an IGP or Schutzhund trial, it does not award a title or certificate, and it does not create an entitlement to protection training. SK9 Training World may decline an application, require a foundation or behaviour route first, or stop the assessment at any point where welfare, safety, handling or legal-responsibility concerns arise.

  • Dog screening: health, lawful ownership, behavioural history, environmental stability, recovery, existing obedience, control and suitability for structured work.
  • Handler screening: physical capability, judgement, consistency, household management, legal responsibility, safe handling and willingness to complete compulsory owner/handler sessions.
  • Property and lifestyle review: children, visitors, other animals, boundaries, containment, routines and the legitimate purpose of the requested training.
  • Written decision: declined; foundation obedience required; behaviour support required; reassessment required; or provisional admission to a suitable SK9 protection programme.

For UK safety and legal reasons, the programme is not offered for intimidation, unlawful activity, retaliation, uncontrolled aggression, or to any applicant who will not follow trainer direction, management rules and ongoing continuation requirements.

Protection Dog Training Prices

Our protection dog training in Kent programmes are for suitable dogs and responsible owners who need high-level control, specialist protection work and a delivery format that goes beyond standard obedience sessions.

There is no residential-only protection package. Every approved programme combines residential development where appropriate with compulsory owner or handler transfer sessions, because control must transfer safely to the person responsible for the dog in daily life.

All protection dog training starts with the mandatory Protection Suitability & Handler Assessment. The assessment may result in a decline, a foundation-obedience route, a behaviour route or a suitable programme recommendation. SK9 Training World does not issue certificates, does not offer uncontrolled aggression training and does not guarantee a dog will be accepted onto a protection programme.

Important: protection work does not replace standard obedience training. Every protection programme is assessment-led and includes clear stages, control requirements, compulsory owner or handler involvement and ongoing maintenance planning.

Assessment Sessions

Why a dog behaviour assessment matters

An assessment is often the best first step. It gives a clear picture of your dog behaviour, training priority and the right route before any larger programme begins.

  • Behaviour overview: identify the main challenge, whether that is obedience, confidence, reactivity or household control.
  • Tailored route: confirm whether private sessions, residential work or another format is the best fit.
  • Safety first: surface any triggers, risks or handling concerns before training starts.
  • Clear next steps: leave with a realistic structure, timeline and cost.

If your dog shows reactivity, aggression, anxiety or repeated behaviour problems, the assessment may route you towards reactive dog training, aggressive dog training in Kent or dog behaviourist support in Kent.

What happens during a dog assessment?

The trainer reviews history, observes behaviour and discusses your goals. The session is focused on practical next steps. Advance payment is required at the time of booking.

Dog training Kent - FAQ

Common questions before starting training.

How much does dog training cost in Kent?

Dog training cost in Kent depends on the service format, trainer time, travel and whether you need private sessions, residential work, behaviour support or protection training. One-to-one obedience sessions start from £55 on weekdays. Residential dog training packages range from £930 for 1 week to £4,000 for 5 weeks. Assessment sessions start from £30.

How much does a dog trainer charge per session?

Weekday assessment sessions start from £30. Weekday one-to-one obedience sessions are £55. Weekend and bank holiday sessions carry a higher rate. The mandatory 90-minute Protection Suitability & Handler Assessment is £185 on weekdays and £200 on weekends and Bank Holidays. Approved-client one-hour protection maintenance and handler coaching sessions are £130 on weekdays and £160 on weekends and Bank Holidays.

How much does puppy training cost?

Puppy training cost depends on whether you start with an assessment, move into regular one-to-one sessions or need a more structured programme. Many owners begin with a £30 weekday assessment so we can confirm the right format before committing to a package.

How much does a dog behaviourist cost?

Behaviour support pricing depends on case complexity, risk factors and the level of structured input required. Where behaviour concerns are present, we recommend starting with an assessment session from £30 so the safest and most effective route can be confirmed.

How much are dog training classes?

We offer private one-to-one sessions rather than group classes. Private training is more tailored and often faster where behaviour issues are involved. Sessions start from £55 for a weekday home visit.

What is included in residential dog training?

Residential dog training includes structured daily work, a written report, a 2-hour owner debrief, video training materials and a grooming discount. The exact length depends on your dog and the level of change required.

Do you offer residential-only protection dog training?

No. Protection dog training is never sold as a residential-only outcome. Suitable programmes combine residential development where appropriate with compulsory owner or handler training, a structured handover and continuation planning. This is necessary because the person responsible for the dog must understand safe control and day-to-day management.

Do you issue protection dog training certificates?

No. SK9 Training World does not issue protection dog training certificates, IGP titles or Schutzhund titles. The Protection Suitability & Handler Assessment provides a written SK9 suitability outcome only. It is not an official IGP or Schutzhund trial and does not guarantee acceptance onto a protection programme.

Can any dog start protection dog training?

No. Every dog and principal handler must pass a strict assessment first. Dogs with fear, instability, poor recovery, unmanaged aggression, poor obedience, welfare concerns or unsuitable household conditions may be declined or directed to foundation obedience or behaviour support instead.

Do you cover all of Kent?

We work across Kent including Maidstone, Canterbury, Dover, Sevenoaks, Medway, Dartford, Gravesend and surrounding areas. We also support selected South East London locations.

How do I book dog training with SK9 Training World?

You can book by phone, WhatsApp or through our contact form. If you are unsure which service suits your dog, start with an assessment. It is the clearest and most cost-effective first step.
